Pay Per Click (PPC) conversion tracking is often the difference between an Adwords campaign making a profit or a loss. Conversion tracking is to show which keywords produce the sale or the lead. All succesful campaigns will be using conversion tracking to show the best and worst performing keywords on a campaign. There is no point trying to guess which keywords produce sales.
